12 Artilleries free from China PDF Print E-mail
General Fonseka says China gifted Sri Lanka twelve artilleries free of charge during the war. He said this in an interview with Sirasa TV.

Further in the interview the Former General claims that the government did not spend much for the war. He says it was Chandrika Kumaratunga, the former president, who wanted to finish the war.

Fonseka said the arms bought by Chandrika were the ones that were used for war. According to him, the present government only bought some guns and machine guns. When questioned about him trying to set up a military rule, the Rtd. General said he had more than 150 battalions under his command that he sent to the war front. If he wanted a military takeover he could have brought 4 battalions in one night to Colombo and take over the power. But he said being a disciplined army officer, he would never dream of doing anything of that nature. Presidential candidate accused the present government of having a shadow military rule by placing 23 Major Generals in high government positions.
