Now onwards Police is responsible PDF Print E-mail
At a meeting held at Temple Trees on the 13th President Mahinda Rajapakse addressing about 3000 police officers said the police should improve their public relationships. Rajapakse stressed that police are responsible to safeguard democracy, and maintain law and order of the country and they will get the maximum cooperation from the government to achieve this. He further said that leveling accusations against the police force meant blaming the government in power and added that as the executive President he will never abuse his powers.
It is very unlikely that his speech was blended with any deceit. Obviously as the Executive President he had all powers vested in him to do anything lawfully and he need not achieve it through any other means.
Therefore the police are given the assurance by the Head of the State that no one interferes with the police duties and the country could have a free and fair Presidential Election this time.
