14 Lankans attempted suicide in Jordan PDF Print E-mail
According to the Labour Ministry of Jordan, 14 Sri Lankan domestic helpers attempted suicide this year.

Due to hard working conditions they attempted to jump from tall buildings.

The number has increased compared to eight cases in 2008. The ethnic background of the 14 Sri Lankans are not known.

Jordanian Labour Minister Ghazi Shbeikat said it is "unacceptable".

Minister Shbeikat told reporters that a ministry team is drafting health and professional safety regulations, which will ensure the enhancement of work conditions of domestic helpers in the Jordanian Kingdom, consistent with a recent Government amendment that, included domestic helpers under the Labour Law.
